From Drought to Dignity: The Battle Against FGM and Extreme Poverty.

The year was 2018. It began with a phone call—an urgent plea for help. Rumuruti SubCounty was grappling with a severe drought, and families were on the brink of despair. With the limited resources Tetea had, we gathered 900 kilograms of maize, 270 kilograms of beans, and a few hundred liters of cooking oil. I know! It wasn’t much, but it was a starting point.

Our journey to the sun-scorched land began, a convoy of hope in the form of food and compassion. What greeted us there, however, was beyond anything we had anticipated. The turnout was overwhelming—hundreds of people gathered in a field, faces roughed-up with hunger yet with so much hope. For a small organization like ours, used to assisting individual families, this was baptism by fire.

We rolled up our sleeves and got to work. By the end of the day, 331 families had been fed. As the last family walked away with their share, a mix of gratitude and resolve settled in our hearts. God’s work had been done—or so we thought. (Subscribe to continue reading)
